ROBERTO – early figgis film – 1986
This was the 2nd film I made. I was approached by a Spanish theatre group, they'd seen something I'd done on stage using film and wanted to create something for themselves. In fact I arrived to chaos, the script was kind of unfilmable so we started from scratch each day and built up this surreal story. It clearly nods to Bunuel. The actors were great to work with. Towards the end I remember getting almost hysterical from lack of sleep. I edited it on the most primitive of cutting tables.
